August is Vaccine Awareness Month

Posted on 8/1/2016

Back-to-school season is here once again. It's time for parents to shop for school supplies and back packs and get back into routines. It's also the perfect time to make sure your children are up to date on their vaccines.

To increase awareness of immunizations for people of all ages - and make sure children are protected with all the vaccines they need as they go back to school - the Heart of America Medical Center recognizes August as National Immunization Awareness Month.
"We always want to do what is best for our children. We know about the importance of car seats, baby gates and other ways to keep them safe. But, did you know that one of the best ways to protect our children is to make sure they have ALL of their vaccinations?
Vaccinations prevent us and our children from getting diseases for which there are often no medical treatments. These illnesses can result in serious complications and in the worst possible case, death." States Ann Sears, RN and Clinic Nurse Supervisor at Heart of America Johnson Clinic in Rugby.

When children are not vaccinated, they are at increased risk for diseases and can also spread diseases to others in daycares, classrooms and to the community - including babies who are too young to be fully vaccinated, and people with weakened immune systems due to cancer or other health conditions.

Talk to your child's medical provider at any of the three Heart of America Johnson Clinics to find out which vaccines are recommended for them before going back to school.

Parents can find out more about the recommended vaccines at www.cdc.gov/vaccines/ or call the Heart of America Johnson Clinic at 701.776.5235
