Types of Diabetes

Diabetes is disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin, the hormone that converts food into the energy needed for daily life. There are four types of diabetes:
Prediabetes - Blood glucose (sugar) levels that are higher than normal, but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes
Gestational - High blood sugar that develops at any time during pregnancy in a woman who does not have diabetes
Type 1 - Most often diagnosed in children, teens, or young adults. In this lifelong disease, the body makes little or no insulin. The exact cause is unknown.
Type 2 - The most common form of chronic diabetes, type 2 diabetes usually occurs slowly over time. Most people with type 2 diabetes are overweight when they are diagnosed

I go to Heart of America Medical Center for all my medical appointments and screenings, and when I had to have surgery, the HAMC surgeon was excellent.
